Open Question: How can I make my cats shed less?

Every friggin' day I brush my cats, dust, lintbrush my furniture, and Swiffervac. There's only two of them and it's a medium sized apartment. I'm still totally overrun by fur all the time. I hate it. It follows me everywhere. It's imbedded in my cat upholstery and my cats have never even been in my car. I went camping and was unable to do the above routine for like three days and I came back and I swear my couch looked a different color.

Tips?

Open Question: Should i put my cat down?

	He is twenty years old.
He was doing good up until a week ago.
he has gotten quite skinny, and doesn't even eat wet food anymore.
he has a hard time jumping onto furniture from tile and wood floors.
he is getting wet eye goobers now, and it looks like he is crying, (even though he actually really isn't 'crying')
He as lost a lot of weight, and he used to be a 20 pound cat. he wasn't fat though. he was very tall and long.
he still makes it to his litter box, but doesn't seem to like to eat anymore.
I always find him hiding in my closet, which he never used to do.
with my old cat i had a LONG time ago, he was always hiding before he died.

please give me some advice, i need it. :(

Open Question: Why do cats dart from room to room?

Why is it that once in a while my cats (I have 2) go a little nuts and start darting from room to room and jumping up an off the furniture like their tail is on fire?

Also they seem more aggressive or agitated and "play" fight at this time too what that about?

Open Question: My roommate/best friend wants to get an indoor/outdoor cat and I don’t want her to. What do I do?

My boyfriend and I live with one of my best friends in a 2 bedroom apartment in Los Angeles. My boyfriend and I brought 2 indoor cats with us when we moved in (she knew about them and was fine with this). The cats are listed on the lease, but we do not have to pay extra fees for having them. Now, a few months into the lease, she wants to bring this indoor/outdoor cat down from Northern CA to live here. Apparently, the older woman who owns the cat can't give it the love it deserves, so she wants someone to take it... my roommate volunteered.

My roommate ran it by my boyfriend and I and I brought up my immediate concerns.. 1. fleas/ticks (I currently don't have to buy flea/tick meds for my cats because they are strictly indoors) and 2. are my cats going to accept or get along with this new cat (introducing my 2 cats was extremely rough and emotionally trying on my me, my boyfriend, and both cats).

Since then, I realized that there are a million other reasons that this concerns me..
1. I believe it's inhumane to have an outdoor cat in a city like Los Angeles... plus it's illegal
2. She has never had a pet and doesn't really know what's she's doing.
3. She doesn't know if it's been fixed or if it's up to date on it's shots.
4. Fleas/Ticks (I don't believe I should have to pay for meds since my cats stay inside)
5. She's not getting it microchipped... enough said.
6. We have coyotes that live very close to our apartment complex and we see them out every night.
7. I don't want my cats to have to share their litter box and food with the new cat and I don't want to have to train the other cat not to use theirs.
8. The cat is going to get dirty outside and bring all the dirt in with it every night onto all the furniture that my boyfriend and I own.. I also can't close my bedroom door because my cats need to be able to get to their litter box and food which is in my bedroom and I don't want the dirty cat on my bed.
9. One of my cats is scared of everything and hates change and the other is extremely territorial... It just feels like a recipe for disaster.

We spoke tonight and I brought up all these concerns with her. She basically said... "I'm sorry you feel that way, but we'll just have to see how it goes." She doesn't care that it's illegal to have an outdoor cat, doesn't think anything will happen to it, and doesn't care that I have to start buying flea/tick meds for my cats. I wouldn't have moved in with her had I known she would do this... I told her that too and it seemed to evoke some kind of emotion in her, but not enough for her to back down. Also, since the cat has been an outdoor cat for it's whole life, she doesn't want to make it an indoor cat because she thinks it's not fair to the cat (Even though in reality, indoor cats lead longer, healthier lives)

My boyfriend and I both agree that this is a terrible idea in general and we don't want her to bring the cat here, but since we have 2 cats we didn't want to outright tell her she can't have one. SO I guess here are the options that my BF and I are okay with..
1. She doesn't bring the cat here at all.
2. She brings the cat and lets it be indoor/outdoor but keeps it in her room when she brings it in at night.
3. She brings the cat and makes it an indoor only cat.

And finally..... for the question....
Please let me know which option you think is best or if you have another option in mind, tell me that too. Also, do my boyfriend and I have the right to say no to the whole thing, we are all 3 on the lease and we out number her 2 to 1. If she does bring the cat here and it can't get along with my cats, how long do we give it before we make her find a new home for the cat?

Sorry for writing a book. Thanks for reading.

Open Question: how do i stop my male cat from urinating on my furniture and carpet?

I have a male cat that will not stop urinating on my sofas and carpet. I also have another male cat and a female cat who are just fine. He seems to do it when no one else is around. I clean up after him, then use an enzymatic cleaner to get the residue up. I also keep all the litter boxes clean.

Open Question: Why has my cat stopped using her perch?

I have a nice tower/perch set up next to our sliding door so that our cat can perch on top and look down at people walking by or so that she can get some sun. She has stopped using her perch and when I put her on it, she immediately jumps off and picks a small area behind some other furniture to get some sun.

Open Question: I’m thinking of getting a cat…any cat lovers/breeders/owners that can help me? =]?

I'm thinking of getting a cat, and I know for sure I want it to be a white adult cat, because I've always wanted a white one since I was a little girl (lol) and since its going to be my first one, I've heard adults are a lot easier to own because you know what you're in for already (looks, personality, etc), and because they're not as time consuming as kittens are (but I do love kittens! =D)

I'm a high school junior, so I know I wouldn't have enough time for a kitten, and many of my friends have cats that are fine while they're at school and their parents work..(oh yea, I also want one since they don't have seperation anxiety problem like dogs can have lol)

I also wanted to know if its true that all cats get hairballs? I've been doing some research and see that it's mainly a problem long haired cats, or cats that haven't been groomed regularly have, and I'll definately groom my cat if I get one, but I don't want a longhaired or bald one, short, possibly, medium haired will be just right for me.

Oh yea, and is it true that a cat can scratch up your furniture, etc even if you buy him/her a scratching post? If that's the case, then I know my parents won't allow one=[

I'm thinking of buying one from a rescue shelter that's been spayed or neutered, that way I'm saving a life and getting a companion =]...I think its sad that kittens are always favored over cats, and that also helped influence my decision with getting an adult cat

& is it true that male cats are more affectionate than females? And are they really always there to cheer you up when you're sad, like dogs always do (male or female cat)?

This is my ideal dream cat by the way! Its not longhaired, an adult, exactly what I have always had pictured in my mind, I was able to find it on someone's PhotoBucket account!:

http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac269/ThePrincessJasmine13/?action=view&current=xx.jpg

But does anyone know what breed it is? I have NO idea at all =/

Lol I know I had a LOT of questions! So thanks to those of you who read it all carefully and give me honest and real answers, it'll really help me in making my decision! ;D
