I have a kitten (ok, more like a teenager cat) who is scratching everything! I know this is a normal behavior and they need to do it, but it has torn up my furniture. I'm getting new furniture soon, and I want to make sure she quits before I get it.
She has a cardboard thing with catnip in it that is designed for her to scratch. She likes it and uses it, but still uses my couch as well! I have yelled at her and smacked her paws, but she still does it, especially if i'm not in the room or she thinks I'm not watching. Sometimes she'll start doing it and when I start to get up to correct her, she'll quit and run away.
What can I do to make sure she stops? Especially when I'm not there?

In the evening I heard a sound as if a cat or small animal were scratching the furniture... I do not have a dog, cat, fish, children or a husband! help!

My boyfriend and I have a cat that is a little over a year old and lately we are having a problem with her peeing on stuff for no reason. She has peed on my favorite lounge chair in the living room, and then one of my winter coats! She's never done this before. There is no other animal smell on the furniture, or the clothes. She's young, I know she isn't incontinent, and we also have one other young cat but she has always lived with him and I don't see why she would do this.
Also, out of nowhere, she has become EXTREMELY needy. She used to keep to herself all the time, and we always play with both cats so neither of them feel left out. But now she ALWAYS has to be up my butt all the time; sitting in my lap every chance she gets, when i cook she pretty much stands right over me while I cook (and i hate that because i hate when cats are on the counter), and she does NOT stop meowing. It's like she is crying for attention 24/7, but we give her lots of love as much as we can because both of us work basically 10-8pm shifts so we aren't home all day.
What would be causing her to act like this for no reason? It bothers me because if the peeing doesn't stop I'm going to have to get rid of her. The meowing just drills into my head, not to mention I am 5 months pregnant and I get annoyed really really quickly nowadays. I don't want to have to get rid of her, but getting ready to have a new baby in the house I'm afraid she is going to get worse and do these things because she isn't getting enough attention. I can't deal with that, or the cat pee everywhere. Someone please help me figure out what is going on. Thanks.

We just got her fixed. She is just a little over 2 years old. But ever since she was fixed, she has started tearing holes in furniture, mainly our couch. Tearing clothes, scratching holes in our doors, and just being a pain.
Now my daughters love this cat, but right now this cat has effectively made me go from like it to want to throw it out a window. We've tried a spray bottle when she does these things, she doesn't stop.
We have toys for her, pay attention to her, and other things yet she is still a pain in the behind. Before she was fixed, she was rather timid, she'd crawl into your lap and fall asleep, sleep on top of you at night. But now she is become horrid and uncontrollable.

Thanks so much!
